Kruger Park Safari

Published by admin under Africa

There is no greater ‘African experience’ than going on an African safari, and no greater place to go on a safari trip than to the Kruger National Park. In 1898, national parks were established to protect and alleviate the declining numbers of game in South Africa. The parks grew larger and in 1926 merged to form the Kruger National Park.

The Kruger Park is home to a variety of mammal-, bird-, reptile-, fish-, and amphibian lifeforms, as well as many different kinds of plants. The most popular animals to see are the Big 5, namely lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard, and there is no better way to view them than by experiencing a Kruger Park Safari.

The Kruger Park offers guided safaris, or if you do not want to do a pre-booked tour there are many maps and guide books than can help you find your way around the park. However, a guided tour has much to offer – the guide is knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife and can point out things that the inexperienced safari traveler might miss. There are also a variety of guided tours through different areas of the Kruger Park and at different times of the year.

Summers bring heavy rains with dramatic thunder storms, resulting in lush, green vegetation that can make spotting wildlife difficult. Winters are mild and dry, so vegetation thins out. Also many animals will gather around major watering holes. So winter could be a better time to go on your safari as there could be far better wildlife viewing opportunities, even though the landscape will be somewhat sparse.

A night-time safari trip will expose you to nocturnal wildlife, which hides away during the day. A night guide can also offer you a lesson in astronomy – with few artificial lights in the Kruger the night-sky is ablaze with stars providing some astronomical sights.

Whether you choose a guided tour or to travel with a map, a Kruger Park Safari will be an experience that you will remember forever.

African Holiday Vacation

Published by admin under Africa

An African holiday is the ideal way to view the Big 5. The infamous Kruger National Park is the largest of South Africa’s national parks, and here you can see lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo – the majestic animals that make up the Big 5.

There are many types of safaris and many different tours to choose form. A tented and walking safari is an excellent way of getting up close and personal with the Big 5. You will literally walk in the paths made by these animals, so keep aware of your surroundings because you could encounter one or more of them while traversing their usual route.

Your African travel adventure will begin with your group being collected at your hotel, and taken to the reserve gate. This journey takes about five hours, but there are plenty of stops along the way. After arriving you will have lunch and sign indemnity forms, and then be driven to a bush camp. The vehicles are all open-top ensuring that you do not lose a single opportunity to observe the spectacular surroundings.

Early the following morning you will walk out into the park with the guide, who will point out and explain the tracks and signs left by the animals during the night. Your walk will be accompanied by a symphony of bird-song, many of which your guide will be able to put a name to. Always keep your eyes open for wildlife spotting!

In the afternoon you will take a short drive to see other animal tracks and, hopefully, some sightings of the Big 5. After sundowners you will return to camp in the vehicles to which giant spotlights are attached. These will light up the surroundings, in order to illuminate the nocturnal animals that hide during the day. The following morning another walk will show how much you can identify after your experiences the day before.

You will come away from your safari tour having learned and seen a great deal. Go on an African holiday for a truly memorable experience.
