Millions of people go camping each year, but the masses of campers usually head to parks or unbroken wilderness to relax in the crisp air. Many people cannot afford to go camping or camping in the unbroken just isn’t for them. However, homeowners always have the option to have a custom tailored camping trip right in their own backyard.

One of the greatest things about camping out in one’s own yard is the closeness to home. If anything has been forgotten, it’s only steps away. Also, when it comes to going to the bathroom, it’s nicer to go in one’s own bathroom instead in the woods. However, it is not advised for those who are backyard camping to be in the house too much, which can easily ruin a backyard campout. When deciding on a backyard campout, the homeowner should devise a plan to prevent themselves from going inside the house too much. Camping equipment should be included as well as any boredom busters such as toys for any children, as well as any food and drinks. If the homeowner imagines that they are out in the wilderness instead of at home, there is a better chance of success with the backyard campout.

It’s important to have certain materials when camping, although there is much room for improvising when it comes to camping in the backyard. If a homeowner chooses not to use a tent and instead wishes to camp under the stars, it’s important to know what the weather is going to be like as well as weather or not there will be mosquitoes (or bug spray to prevent mosquitoes from biting.) For those who would like to camp with a tent, it’s important to set up the tent ahead of time so that the homeowner knows of any tears in the tent that could ruin a camping trip. Any campers will need a sleeping bag or at least a blanket. It is not recommended to bring comforters as they can quickly become ruined outdoors. If anyone prefers to sleep on an air mattress instead of the ground, it’s important that this is available, but it’s equally important for the homeowner to note that these things will also have to be put away when the camping trip is over.

Another thing to keep in mind when camping out, is food. Many campers enjoy having a campfire in the backyard. If this cannot be done because of local ordinances, the homeowner can use their grill as a campfire and have an equally enjoyable time. There are different traditional “camp” foods such as smores, but the chosen foods should fit the preferences of all of those camping. Having a picnic at backyard campout can also be enjoyable activity for those who prefer to have a fire-free campout. Many campers also bring many snacks to campouts including trail mix and puppy chow. These mixes can be purchased in stores or made at home the day before the campout.

Campers may also want to bring some sort of toy or game on a campout. Although, these are usually brought to break up the boredom at long distance camping trips, they are also important for the backyard so that campers avoid going in the house.
