An African holiday is the ideal way to view the Big 5. The infamous Kruger National Park is the largest of South Africa’s national parks, and here you can see lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo – the majestic animals that make up the Big 5.

There are many types of safaris and many different tours to choose form. A tented and walking safari is an excellent way of getting up close and personal with the Big 5. You will literally walk in the paths made by these animals, so keep aware of your surroundings because you could encounter one or more of them while traversing their usual route.

Your African travel adventure will begin with your group being collected at your hotel, and taken to the reserve gate. This journey takes about five hours, but there are plenty of stops along the way. After arriving you will have lunch and sign indemnity forms, and then be driven to a bush camp. The vehicles are all open-top ensuring that you do not lose a single opportunity to observe the spectacular surroundings.

Early the following morning you will walk out into the park with the guide, who will point out and explain the tracks and signs left by the animals during the night. Your walk will be accompanied by a symphony of bird-song, many of which your guide will be able to put a name to. Always keep your eyes open for wildlife spotting!

In the afternoon you will take a short drive to see other animal tracks and, hopefully, some sightings of the Big 5. After sundowners you will return to camp in the vehicles to which giant spotlights are attached. These will light up the surroundings, in order to illuminate the nocturnal animals that hide during the day. The following morning another walk will show how much you can identify after your experiences the day before.

You will come away from your safari tour having learned and seen a great deal. Go on an African holiday for a truly memorable experience.
